All About Mrs. Mwangi

Habari (hello in Swahili)!  My name is Mrs. Mwangi and I will be the safari guide for Room 206 this year.  I'm very excited to start our journey together, but would first like to introduce myself.  This is my 5th year of teaching, with 2 years in Kansas City, MO (4th grade) and the last 3 years here in Joplin, MO (5th grade).  I completed my Bachelor's degree at MSSU in Elementary Education.  In December 2009, I completed my Educational Administration degree at MSU.   In addition, I just finished my eMINTS certification.  I will also be serving as the district's 5th Grade Chair this year.

My husband, Edwin, is a nurse who can handle needles and blood much better than myself!  He also is in PA school at MSU.  We have a puppy named Bentley, who is half Shitzu and half Bichon.  Bentley is spoiled rotten, but very handsome I might add.  Our family stays very busy with school, meetings, and work.  My husband and I enjoy traveling and just returned from his homeland Kenya, Africa, in June 2009.  I experienced many firsts, with one being my first safari.  Wow, was it exciting!  Our most recent and exciting news is that we are expecting our first little one!  We are truly blessed and excited to start the adventure of parenthood.  As students are a very important part of my day, they will get to see the little "baby bump" grow throughout the year.  Below is a a size relation of how big the baby is as the 9 months pass.  We are so anxious to meet Baby Mwangi!

My passion is truly working with children.  I love seeing the "light bulb" turn on or watching kids make the impossible - possible!  Children are often underestimated for what they can accomplish.  I love giving them a challenge and seeing them run with it.  As a teacher, it is my personal goal each year to push each student to his/her potential.  I believe all children can learn and make a difference if they put their minds to it.
